Hannah Martha... is a family name, passed down from generations residing in small, coastal towns in northeast North Carolina. Growing up with working parents gave me the opportunity to be partly raised by my grandmother. Among many attributes, she instilled the love of curiosity, independence, and learning.
As a fitness and wellness professional, yoga instructor, and personal trainer; I hold a PhD in Applied Kinesiology with a focus in cardiovascular health. Through completion of a certificate in Global Health in 2020, I founded an international research series on Healthy Aging with centenaries from the Blue Zone region of Costa Rica. This research series grew to include centenarians and older adults from the United States for comparison of culture and society.
In 2022, I was awarded a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship in Healthy Aging and Longevity to expand this research with the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health at the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute.
This series now includes interviews from centenarians and older adults from Costa Rica, the United States, and Australia. Recently, I have worked with resarchers in Nepal to evaluate their older adult health and wellness in Kathmandu.
One aspect of Healthy Aging is intergenerational activities. In 2019, I co-founded a Cape Charles Community Sailing, a sailing school for youth and adults on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. One way I give to future generations, is teaching how to respect and love outdoor sources of energy that can give back throughout the lifespan.
My focus lies in objective versus subjective health and longevity to understand what it takes to live WELL in the later years of life, regardless of disease or disability.
The purpose is illuminate holistic lifestyle practices in today’s world that may teach future generations.
I provide one-on-one health and wellness consults to meet personalized goals with a focus in holistic nutrition, natural exercise, and alternative health practices for a focus on preventative medicine.
