Welcome to a held space to share research on life.
I am a lifelong learner…and recently have extended this to an Explorer. By definition, this is someone who seeks knowledge that is new to them, but not necessarily new to all.
With a PhD in Applied Kinesiolgy and Global Health, I seek to explore for lifelong wellness. This includes: natural movement, close-to-home nutrition, mindfulness, and intergenerational activities to live well throughout life.
I was taught from a young age…to be curious with tenacity and never stop learning.
ABOUT ME
Hannah Martha is a family name, passed down from generations residing in small, coastal towns in northeast North Carolina. Growing up with two working parents gave me the opportunity to be partly raised by my grandmother. Among many attributes, she instilled the love of curiosity, independence, and learning.
With a background in health and wellness, I completed a PhD in Applied Kinesiology with a focus in cardiovascular health in 2021.
My focus lies in objective versus subjective health and longevity to understand what it takes to live WELL in the later years of life, regardless of disease or disability.
With interest in the Blue Zone regions of the world, a research series began in 2020 to understand perspectives of Healthy Aging and how this has changed throughout life and society. This research series includes interviews from older-adults in the Blue Zone region of Costa Rica, the United States, and from Australia during placement as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow from 2022-2023.
The purpose is to listen and see how generations have changed for informed action to illuminate lifestyle practices in today’s world that may teach future generations.
One aspect of this is intergenerational activities. Six years ago, I co-founded and currently opperate a sailing school for youth and adults on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. This is one way I give to future generations, for them to learn how to respect and love outdoor sources of energy that can give throughout the lifespan.
Here I share stories of the journey.
For we each are a gift. We are all teachers who share in this journey.
